It seems that charity bake sales are not just limited to your local flea markets, schools and churches — they actually now exist on the internet. I guess it makes sense — you can sell anything on the internet, so why not baked goods for charity? Anyway, I don’t know why I was so blown away when I heard about Baking for Good, where 15% of every purchase made on the web site goes to a cause of your choice, but I was. As the site says, it is “the online bake sale that supports great causes.”
I heard about Baking for Good when I received an e-mail from Big Girls, Small Kitchen about a week after the Great American Bake Sale at Brooklyn Flea, asking if any of us food bloggers who participated in the sale would be interested in sponsoring the Virtual Bake Sale for Pediatric Cancer by blogging about the cause. They created a special blondie recipe especially to benefit The Valerie Fund. It’s a bit late now to order these blondies, but I still think the site is worth checking out and perhaps some of you guys will be inclined to purchase baked goods for worthy causes.
I’ve been doing a lot of baking, despite the lack of posting. It’s just that there haven’t been any “new” projects since I’ve been making cupcakes and the Italian rainbows for others… I also just miss sitting in front of my TV, watching shows on my DVR and relaxing instead of baking almost every night. I also miss just baking the simple things, like chocolate chip cookies.
